East Fourth Street

Hover

Hover is a huge, mobile, interactive, bicycle-powered bat. Ten feet long and flying fifteen feet above the ground, the creature gracefully soars above the crowds. The lower vehicle mechanism on the ground will be made from salvaged bike parts and scrap metal, and the puppet will be created from lightweight materials such as plastic tubing and fabric. We will steer the contraption, but it will be powered and brought to life by willing participants. Five people will assist in puppeting the bat: three pedal to propel the bat through the city; one runs the pedal-powered wings; and one person puppets the bat’s head to look around and survey the nighttime streetscape. As visitors explore Lowertown at Northern Spark, so will the bat, journeying the streets throughout the night.
