Working From Home

Working From Home
For the duration of Northern Spark 2013, award winning performer and scenic designer Paul Herwig will inhabit a 15-foot square plastic covered house, performing with materials, tools, lights, and sound to create an installation within, which will transform throughout the evening until dawn on June 9th.

Encounter the house as though you’re walking through a strange neighborhood you shouldn’t be in. Catch a glance of the shadows, and listen to the sounds inside. Write a letter and put it through the mail slot. Ring the doorbell and run away. Come back later in the evening (when the banshees have begun to play) and see how it’s all changed.

“When I’m in a strange neighborhood walking past the houses, I often look sideways at the shadowy light behind a window shade and wonder who’s living in there, what’re they doing, what’re their lives like? Sometimes I can see the lonely glow of snow on the screen of a silent TV. Sometimes I hear angry voices, yelling. Sometimes the house seems utterly empty, but I can feel a presence inside…looking at me.“

There is no place like Home.
