Volunteer for Northern Spark—June 8, 2013

Want to help make Northern Spark 2013 happen? If you love interacting with people and being the go-to person for fun facts and details, volunteering for this summer festival is the thing for you! Northern Spark is looking for energetic individuals to lend a hand!

Volunteering is easy and fun: we work hard to make sure you have all the information you need to complete your volunteer shift and have a great experience, too. As a volunteer, you will receive a free T-shirt and a chance to win fabulous prizes. The more you volunteer, the higher the value of prize you are eligible to win!

Shifts are scheduled in three-hour time slots from 6 pm until 6 am.

***NOTE: One FINAL orientation***

Hey volunteers, if you missed orientation, you’re not out of luck. We can still get you the information you need to be a total rock-star of a festival volunteer! We are hosting one more super-condensed volunteer orientation on Wednesday, June 5 at 7:00pm in the 3rd floor conference room. On the night of, look for a volunteer in a bright orange t-shirt who will guide you to the orientation location.

Festival Volunteer Roles

We need more than one hundred outgoing volunteers to make the festival happen.

Here’s how you can get involved:

Information Desk

Volunteers stationed at these locations around the festival are rock stars of information. The primary task of Information Desk volunteers is to give information about Northern Spark art and events to festival goers.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Festivals happen, private parties are planned, and sometimes we need an extra hand to help with administrative tasks. Let us know (email birdie@northern.lights.mn) if you would like to be volunteer for special opportunities before festival night.

Pre-Festival Outreach

We need fantastic and enthusiastic volunteers to spread the word about Northern Spark at spring festivals such as MayDay in Powderhorn Park. If you love crowds and are interested in telling the world about Northern Spark, this is the volunteer gig for you.

Office Help

As we ramp up for the festival in June, we may need assistance with office projects. E-mail birdie@northern.lights.mn if you are interested in helping.

The Low-Down: How Volunteering Works

We’re ready for you: we make sure that you are well prepared for your volunteer shift so you can have a great experience at Northern Spark.

Volunteer Shifts

Shifts are scheduled in three-hour time slots starting at 6 pm.

Orientation

All Northern Spark volunteers are required to attend one of three orientation sessions at Saint Paul Union Depot in late May. Tell us which session you plan to attend when you sign up for your volunteer shifts.

    • Thursday, May 23, 6:30 – 7:30 pm
    • Saturday, May 25, 3:00 – 4:00 pm
    • Wednesday, May 29, 6:30 – 7:30 pm

Optional walking tours of the festival footprint will take place following each of the scheduled orientation times.

Training Packets

At orientation, you will receive a detailed information packet containing everything you need to know. Where to check in, where the closest restrooms are—you’ll have all the answers to give to festival goers about the night’s events.

Perks and Benefits

We mean it when we say we couldn’t make this happen without you. To show our appreciation for your time and commitment to making this the best Northern Spark yet, each volunteer who commits to one three-hour shift will receive a T-shirt designed by Matthew Rezac. You’ll have access to Volunteer Central (at Saint Paul Union Depot) where you can grab a snack before, after, or in between shifts.

By volunteering, you become eligible for fabulous prizes—the more you volunteer, the more awesome the prizes. Check closer to the festival for a complete list of prizes.
